<She codes> in the episode # 4, spoke to Ms. Srishti Verma.
Here is what we spoke about in our vlog:
Swati: Let’s start , so tell me about yourself and your journey ?
Srishti : Before starting about myself, I would like to thank you for giving me this opportunity and bringing this platform for all women engineers and techies.
I joined Jio as GET- graduate engineer trainee in 2017 and now I am an android developer. My journey in jio has been great, incredibly supportive managers and team members who always boost me for new work.
Swati: As a developer, what are the things you recommend while writing codes.
Srishti : Being in a product based company, especially in Reliance Jio, customer satisfaction is the upmost thing. Because for us, customer review is particularly important
And I don’t think it should be only for us but for every individual whether you have your YouTube channel or any app or any website, if your target audience is finding difficulty in using it, then you are lacking somewhere in your delivery.
If you want to survive, code quality and stability is very imp. I think you should write Test Cases. These are very important for the code you write .Initially what I did I just start coding, whenever I get any task , instead of going through requirements and understanding them, so its imp to understand your requirements first and then start coding.
Always follow KISS: “Keep It Simple and Short”, make your code more stable and reusable.
Swati: How has been your journey as a woman engineer, what’s your message to women engineers?
Srishti: Firstly, I want to salute all ladies and all the home makers and specially to those women who manage both office and home tasks.
Just wanted to start with a small activity, just close your eyes and imagine 3 persons, one driving Train, second Bus Conductor and Third Person cooking in Kitchen.
90% of people will imagine male member for first and second position and female for 3rd…. it’s by default in our mind that women are only restricted to household work.
I believe women are always engineers by their work, they don’t need any special degree. Because see what we expect our code to be clean, reusable, etc. These skills women have by their own. Whether they are managing their kitchen or managing their code.
Swati: Any special Message for graduates or fresh engineers
Srishti: Don’t Stop learning, many of companies has launched free certifications and not only learning, but regular practise is the most important thing. Many companies have still openings, our company onboarded 100 freshers in a single day.
Remember two things:
1. If we don’t use it ; 2. why are we using it. Success only comes from experiences, whether you fail in your code, but that errors will always make you learn something. This computer and your mind can establish a million-dollar company, so much power when these two things combine.
Swati: What are the “IN” things in the technology?
Srishti: If I talk about android, front end , cross platform are very much in demand –different platform with single code base eg. for android, iOS frameworks react native, flutter that are doing pretty well.
